My Approach

Individual Life Coaching
My approach to individual coaching is collaborative, supportive, non-judgmental, and goal oriented. Together we will gain a better understanding of your life situation, identify your strengths, find strategies to overcome life barriers, and develop new skills to attain your goals. I want to empower you to take control of your life and teach you how to directly contribute to your own satisfaction. I take an active approach during sessions that includes focusing on changing ineffective thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that may be contributing to current problems, and exploring more adaptive, flexible, and efficient solutions. I often give homework assignments that will help you attain your coaching goals more efficiently while also giving you direct influence over your life circumstance.

Couples Coaching
My approach to couples coaching involves exploring the dynamics of your relationship, identifying each partner’s needs, developing new strategies and skills to meet those needs, and helping both partners gain confidence with using this new relationship strategy. Couples Coaching can help you learn how to provide and receive support from your partner, increase intimacy and communication, improve conflict resolution skills, increase sexual and relationship satisfaction, and improve relationship commitment.

Theoretical Orientation: My coaching is informed by an integrative theoretical background (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy)

Coaching typically focuses on one or more of the following general themes:

  • Establishing a safe trusting relationship where emotions and experiences are validated and explored
  • Building interpersonal and communication skills
  • Developing emotion regulation strategies (for mild anxiety, depression, & anger)
  • Practicing reality-testing (to improve inefficient thoughts and/or behaviors)
  • Teaching mindfulness & relaxation strategies
  • Developing skills to tolerate distress
